The Gulu district local government chairperson, Martin Ojara Mapenduzi and eleven other people have been discharged from Gulu Regional Referral Hospital after fully recovering from Coronavirus.

Mapenduzi and the others spent sixteen days at the Gulu Covid-19 treatment centre after testing positive for the disease over two weeks ago.

Dr Paska Apiyo the head of Covid-19 treatment centre in Gulu said on Friday evening that the dozen underwent treatment for the disease and all their confirmatory tests results turned out negative for the disease leading to their discharge on Friday.

Mapenduzi confirmed his discharge in a phone interview on Friday adding that all his confirmatory tests result for Covid-19 turned out negative and he is equally feeling much better.

He however appealed to the community to continue following the Standard Operations Procedure (SOPs) and Health Ministry`s guidelines aimed at containing the spread of coronavirus disease in the country.

Mapenduzi also pleaded with members of the community to desist from stigma noting that it will affect the fight against the deadly disease.

Also six journalists who were undergoing treatment for the disease at Gulu treatment centre were on Wednesday discharged after recovering from the disease.

Currently there are more than 150 patients undergoing Covid-19 at the Gulu treatment centre. Gulu has treated at least 488 Covid-19 cases and recorded 346 recoveries since May this year.

Uganda has registered cumulative 465,600 cases of Covid-19 since March this year with 71 death cases as of Friday this week.
