Ms Atimango Concy, a 19 year old orphan is vending Chapatti and Rolex (made of chappati and eggs) to the resident of Amuru town council with the aim of raising tuition fees to finish are diploma course in Agriculture.
Atimango left her family home in Pabbo Sub County and travelled about 38 KM and settled within the town council to do business so that she can finish her Diploma in studies.
She said that she started the business with capital of Shs150,000.
She said this was money she reserved out of her pocket money.
Atimango explained that although the business is normally dominated by boys and men, she took the courage to also venture into it with hope to raise her tuition money to finish her Diploma in Agriculture from Bukalasa Agricultural school.
Atimango gets a daily profit of Shs40, 000 from the business.
As a young woman, she however faces challenges from her male customers.
“You see they come here and instead of buying my chappati, they instead begin asking to date me but am used to it and know what to answer them, although many people come here when they are too drunk and shout at me. This however does not deter me from doing my business because I have a dream to accomplish,” Atimango said.
Another challenge the girl face doing her business is that most civil servants from Amuru who are her biggest customers normally go to Gulu district during weekends which affects her sales on Saturdays and Sundays.
Atimango told Acholi times that she has decided not to give up on life after her mother died in February this year.
Her late mother was a teacher and the sole breadwinner for the family as her father is just a small scale farmer.
Atimango who is the third born in her family said all her siblings are in school.
“We made up our mind that we must all study so we work very hard during holiday period. Sometimes my brother makes bricks and burns them for sale. We are getting where we want to be gradually,” Atimango said.
She also confirmed that she has raised enough money to make her begin her Diploma course and will be leaving for school by late August.
Kilak County Member of Parliament, Gilbert Olanya said that it is very easy to support youth who are able to start something of their own.
He promised to see a way of supporting Atimango next year.
