The South African Ambassador to Uganda, Prof. Maj Gen Lekoa Solly Mollo last week visited Gulu War Affected Training Center in Gulu.
The center has been funded by Eskom, a power generation company from South Africa.
Mollo noted that the center will bring difference in the lives of those who have been devastated by the war.
‘‘I am a south African that’s why my predecessor came here and contacted Eskom to build a home and this is a story of hope which needs to be replicated else were in the world. I am here to reconfirm a commitment to ensure that this seed planted at the center can grow further as this is a story of Africans solving their own problems,’’ He said.
The professor also urged the former abducted to embrace their work and agitate for higher positions in life in order to prosper and be able to help others.
The Managing Director Eskom Uganda, Ms. Thozama Gangi said that, “For Eskom, it is a privilege as part of our corporate social responsibility as we are embarking on sustainable development projects.”
The center was founded by Ms Lalam Betty to train girls formerly abducted by Lord’s Resistance Army rebels to enable them fend for themselves and in the process eradicate poverty among women and children.
Lalam says she was inspired to start the center due to the impoverished life she grew up in.
Meanwhile, during a meeting with the business community at Pearl Afrique Hotel in Gulu town, the South African High Commissioner urged Investors from Northern Uganda not to fear going to South Africa because of xenophobia which early this year claimed several lives.
Local Investors said they are willing to partner with the South African Investors in several areas including industrialization, agriculture and transport among others.
