Ms Laker Sharon Balmoi, aspiring woman Member of Parliament for Gulu district has dismissed allegations that her husband, Mr Norbert Adyera embezzled and mismanaged public funds while he was chairman of the Acholi War Debt Claimants Association.

The Acholi War Debt Claimants Association was established some years back to demand for compensation from government for cattle lost during the National Resistance Arm insurgency in the 1980s.

Balmoi accused her fellow politicians of using the issue that arose months back to tarnish her name and twist her political career.

She however said she has never worked with the Acholi War Debt Claimants Association adding that her husband who was and is still the serving chairman has never embezzled money.

Adyera was at some point kicked out of the association when members elected Engineer Noah Opwonya as a replacement following the allegations of embezzlement.

Balmoi said, “This should in no way affect my intention to run for Gulu Woman Member of Parliament. Political leaders accusing my husband had selfish interests over the money.”

She added that the aggrieved politicians wanted her husband removed from office but fortunately her husband has been reinstated to office.

Adyera and his executive were accused of embezzling Shs5 billion meant to compensate those who lost cattle in Northern Uganda.
