    Gulu district Speaker elected New NRM district chairman

    Okello Douglas Peter Okao jibilates after being annouced NRM district chair

    Mr Okello Douglas Peter Okao, the Gulu District Speaker was on Tuesday evening elected as the new National Resistance Movement (NRM) party chairman for Gulu district for a five year term of office.

    Okao garnered 357 votes to beat his only rival Mr Samuel Oduny who gathered only 125 votes.

    Okao is taking over the docket of the NRM party district chairman from Mr Martin Aboga Kiza who did not seek re-election.

    Ms Grace Atim Oleyowiya went unopposed as the NRM party district Vice Chairperson. She replaces Mr Charles Moro who has since joined the private sector.

    Mr Ocen James was elected General Secretary, beating Ms Lucy Larubi and Ms Atimango Christine Ario who were also eyeing the same post.

    Finance Secretary Position was taken by Ms Florence Ochora, a widow to the late Rtd Col. Walter Ochora who managed to beat Ms Alima Joyce Remy, the Gulu district deputy speaker and Ms Okot Rose Min Woko.

    Publicity Secretary was taken by Mr Opio Ateker, the LCV councillor for Awach Sub County.

    He contested against Mr Odokonyero Charles, Mr Robinson Oryema Ogeri, Mr Alfred Oluba, the LCIII chairman of Layibi division and Mr Simon Peter Wokorac.

    Ms Betty Atim was elected women’s league chairperson, Mr Owachgui Richard (youth), Ms Betty Acan Tino (Elders league), Mr Oboma Thomas (workers league), Lt. Alfred Ocaya (veterans league), and Ms Adong Caroline Rose (Disability league].

    Mr George Ovola, the Gulu district NRM registrar urged all the contestants to work together.
