A section of District Councilors in Gulu have collected 18 signatures out of the 36 in their bid to censor Dorothy Ajwang, the embattled Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).
By Friday afternoon, thirteen male Councilors and five female Councilors had already signed for her transfer from Gulu district.
The Councilors want to petition the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government to recall her to the headquarters in Kampala before Ajwang can be redeployed in another district.
On Tuesday, they threatened to lock her office in protest over what they described as high level of absenteeism by the CAO.
Mr Martin Ojara Mapenduzi, the District LCV Chairperson on Friday called for mutual understanding and asked the Councilors not to be driven by emotions.
Mapenduzi noted that if the issues are genuine, formal procedures should be adhered to.
The District Chairperson had proposed to meet the petitioners but they declined.
He accordingly asked the Councilors to involve the District Speaker so that an emergency full council meeting can be convened to resolve the outstanding matter.
The lead petitioner, Mr Christopher Opiyo Ateker, the District Councilor V for Awach Sub County says they are tired of the CAO who has failed to deliver services since she spends most of her time in Kampala.
Ateker alleges that, “Due to Ajwang’s absenteeism, a lot of projects have stalled for close to several months after she failed to approve requisitions made by the respective departmental heads.”
He cited works on St. Martin Primary School and 75 borehole projects that were to be constructed this financial year.
But Ajwang denied all the allegations and said she normally travels to Kampala on official duty but not personal capacity as alleged by the District Councilors.
Ajwang assumed office in November last year.
