MP Acire jubilantly walking out of court early this month when a high court judge ruled that he was the legitimate FDC candidate for Aswa County in Gulu district. The MP now faces another hurdle from LDC were he faces expulsuion. He has previously been expelled from his law degree course at Kampala International University due to poor academic performance.

Gulu Municipality Member of Parliament Christopher Acire is on the verge of being axed from the Law Development center (LDC) after failing to sit all his final exams including internship.

Acire enrolled last year at LDC to pursue a Diploma in human rights.

Acholi times has received exclusive information that since his enrollment, Mr Acire has not been a regular student at the LDC.  In a letter dated December 17, the management committee at LDC requested an immediate explanation from Mr Acire and other students on why they failed to sit their examination or risk being kicked out.

The decision, according to the letter, follows a meeting the LDC board of examiners held on the December 15 to approve results for students who sat for their exams.

This is not the first time the legislator is getting in trouble with an institution of higher learning for academic reasons. Acire has previously been expelled for poor academic performance from Kampala International University (KIU) where he was pursuing a degree in law.

When contacted on Sunday, Mr Acire acknowledged that he had not sat for his examination but noted he had formally informed the management committee at LDC indicating that he would be busy with campaigns a head of the 2016 elections.

Acire said he sat for his first semester examination in which, according to him, he performed ‘extremely’ well.

“I have not just failed to sit for the exams and carry on the internship. This is a political season and I need some time to solicit for support from my electorates,” said Mr Acire in a harsh tone adding “do you think there is any cause of alarm here?”

The legislator said he will sit for his exams after the February elections.

The embattled Forum Democratic Change flag for Aswa County and is seeking to oust incumbent Aswa County MP, Reagan Okumu.

However Acire has faced resistance from his party since the high court in Gulu declared him the FDC flag bearer because of the party failing to hold primary elections for the electorate to choose who between him and Okumu should be the party candidate.

Last week the FDC party president Mugisha Muntu said during Besigye’s campaigns in Gulu that Okumu Reagan is the candidate the FDC supports and not Acire.

Acire through his lawyers has threatened that he will sue the FDC and its supporters if  he is not recognised as the party candidate.

On December 18, Gulu High Court resident judge Margaret Mutonyi ruled that Mr Acire is the legitimate flag bearer for Aswa County, quashing the  argument of defence lawyers that Okumu was  the duly endorsed candidate by the party.
