Amuru woman Member of Parliament Lucy Akello has asked police for personal security following an incident on Monday morning in which unidentified people tried to break into her house located in Layibi Division in Gulu Municipality.
Akello is defending her seat on the FDC ticket against NRM’s Jane Francesca Okilli.
Akello said after the attack she feels threatened necessitating her to ask for police guards.
‘’ I have a lot of fear and cannot go on like this; I need a security to protect me because my life is totally in danger. Police should provide security for me,’’ Akello said.
The Amuru woman MP told Acholi Times the attackers had intentions of harming her since they left her vehicle untouched in her compound.
‘’ I am sure that the attackers wanted to ham me because my vehicle was never vandalized yet it was outside. The attackers took almost an hour at my door when there was even security light an indication that they wanted me,’’ she said.
She suspects the attack is politically motivated.
‘’ We are all fighting for the only one position, I cannot totally say my opponents plotted this but I suspect it is politically driven by a person who I even don`t know. This period is risky and someone can anything.’’
Akello has reported a case of attempted robbery at Gulu central police under SD number SD44/11/01/2016.
The legislator said the attackers attempted to break into her house early Monday this week between 2:30 am to 3:30 am.
Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa region police spokesperson said anyone who wants personal security can apply to the police.
