President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Major General Oketta Julius the assistant coordinator of Operation wealth creation under the office of the president.

Acholi Times understands that Gen Oketta, an outgoing army representative in the 9th parliament was advised by the president not to contests as an army member of parliament in last week’s election of army representatives in the10th parliament. The reason for the president’s advice, a source told Acholi Times is because Oketta’s new role would require him to traverse the country to supervise operation wealth creation projects.

When contacted, Major Gen Oketta, the highest ranking officer from Acholi sub region confirmed the appointment saying he will be working with General Salim Saleh, the overall coordinator of operation wealth creation.

Oketta, an army representative in the 9th parliament did not seek reelection.

‘‘It is true I am not seeking office as MP for the army again. I have already gotten my appointment instruction as the new assistant coordinator for operation wealth creation. By the way I am even working now,’’ Oketta said by telephone on Saturday.

Established by president Museveni in 2013, Operation Wealth Creation is meant to eradicate poverty in Uganda.  Gen Salim Saleh, Museveni’s younger brother is the Chairman of the initiative.
