Two teachers from Oret primary school in Oret parish in Puranga Sub County, Pader district were on Tuesday afternoon arrested for being drunk at work.

The teachers have been identified as Godfrey Menya Okidi and Denis Menya.

Puranga Sub county chief, Emmanuel Oguti, said the teachers were arrested on Tuesday afternoon after a tip off by school management committee members whose identity he declined to reveal.

Oguti said he ordered for the arrest of the teachers who were found drunk at school. At the time of arrest, according to Oguti, the teachers had more alcohol in mineral water bottles.

The sub county chief called for disciplinary action against the teachers to act as a lesson to other teachers who come to school drunk.

Pader district secretary education, Patrick Kilama has condemned the vice of excessive drinking among teachers and blamed it for the poor performance of pupils in the district.

Puranga Sub County, with 16 primary schools failed to produce any first grades in last year’s primary leaving examinations.
