An American national is stuck in Kampala after his passport, that of his son and 31 million shillings in his possession was stolen from a Gulu hotel.

Daniel Johnson was the team leader of 17 US missionaries from Rocky Mountain Cavalry Chapel, Colorado Spring. The missionaries were in Gulu for a one-week visit at Gulu Calvary Chapel when the passports and money was allegedly stolen from the parking yard of Churchill Courts, one of the leading hotels in Gulu.

Johnson suspects the passports and money was stolen from the parking yard of the hotel as they  prepared to travel outside of Gulu town for field visits.

The  theft happened on Wednesday last week. The case was reported at Gulu Central Police on the same day.

Speaking from Kampala  Monday, Mr Johnson said he and his son are stuck in Uganda as they wait for their travel documents to be processed by the US embassy in Uganda to enable them travel back to America.

Pastor Fred Latim, the resident Pastor of Calvary Chapel in Gulu said that they want the money recovered since it was part of a donation towards the construction and development of the church.

Atono Julius Peter the manager of Churchill Courts Hotel said that their security camera had broken down on the day of the theft.

Atono also told this writer that the missionaries have been customers of the hotel since 2012 had not lost anything before. He said the management of the hotel was investigating the matter.

Gulu district police commander, Martin Okoyo told Acholi Times that police detectives are investigation the matter.  The police commander revealed that the case  had been reported to Gulu police under  SD Ref 47/06/2016.
