Philip Bongomin, 32, a primary school teacher in Gulu making an appeal at a press conference so he can raise 23.7 million shillings needed for an operation to remove a growth in his brain.

A primary school teacher in Gulu is appealing for support from well-wishers to raise 23.7 million shillings to enable him undergo a medical surgery in order to remove a brain tumor.

Philip Bongomin, 32, a teacher of Patiko Prisons Primary School, Aswa County in Gulu district says the amount needed is too high for him to raise thus the public appeal for help.

Case Medical Clinic, a private medical facility in Kampala– with specialists who can conduct the operation has offered to treat Bongomin at a fee of 20,370, 000 shillings.

If he manages to raise the amount, and successfully undergoes the operation, it will take Bongomin ten days before he can be discharged from the facility

Due the tumor, Bongomin told the media in Gulu on Tuesday that he has lost his right eye sight due to the abnormal growth in his brain.

According to Bongomin, since January last year, he has been experiencing constant headache and that it was only until December last year that doctors discovered the cause of the headache to be a brain tumor.

Bongomin adds that teaching has become a difficult task since talking for long makes him dizzy as well as causes pain in his head.

A radiology report by Dr Mbabazi M. of Ernest Cook Ultrasound Research & Education Initiative, observed that there is a ‘‘mixed density sellar tumor with densities of 22.7 HU.’’

A brain tumour is a growth of cells in the brain that multiplies in an abnormal, uncontrollable way. It can either be cancerous (malignant) or non-cancerous (benign).
