Mr Reagan Okumu, the Aswa County Member of Parliament has urged people from Acholi Sub Region to demand for the regional Tier Government.

Mr Okumu who doubles as the Chairperson for Acholi Parliamentary Group says the community will have a better bargain and concrete voice on issues affecting them such as the Apaa land problem if they embrace and demand for a region tier government.

He was on Tuesday afternoon addressing a press conference at his office in Gulu town.

The legislator also said that people have too much expectations from the Acholi parliamentary group but that the group has very limited power and that the best way for Acholi to be more stronger in their voice is to demand government for a regional tier which will provide for an Acholi parliament and a governor who will be responsible for Acholi issues.

He also said Mr Moses Ali, the deputy prime minister should be part of the people finding a solution to the Apaa land problem as he has interest in the contested area.

Apaa which is located in Amuru district is being claimed by Amuru, Adjumani and also the Uganda Wild Life Authority (UWA)

Okumu said Mr Bruce Martin, a South African investor wants the land for sport hunting and was deceived by some personalities in government while people were in the internal displaced people’s camps (IDPs).

“It is just some personalities in Government who have interest in the contested land but it is on record that the people in Apaa own the land since they have been voting there,” Mr Okumu.

Okumu said that the stripping naked of the women in Apaa a last resort and nobody should attack Kilak county MP, Mr Gilbert Olanya.

“It would have been worse if the women committed Suicide. They were planning to commit suicide but resorted to undressing which was fairer compared to hanging themselves before the ministers,” Mr Okumu said

Okumu stated that they as leaders from Acholi have agreed to hold a meeting this week with the prime minister to see that the issue is resolved.

Governor to govern who! We do not need governors not even MPs or Ministers, because all are serving their selfish interests. We know what we want and how to get it. Who put foods on our table or pay for our health and education expenses.
