Eight residents of Nwoya district were early this week arrested by police in connection with the murder of a two- year old who was found dead with her tongue, ears, lips and unnamed internal organs missing.
Police say the toddler went missing on Friday last week only for her body to be found dumped in stream a short distance from her home.
Aswa region police spokesman Jimmy Patrick Okema said police was tipped by one of their informants on the where about of the missing child who they found dead in the stream.
Okema said eight suspects whose identity he did not reveal have been arrested in connection with the murder.
The police spokesman said preliminary investigation indicates that the girl could have been killed in ritual murder since her body parts and organs were missing.
The suspects are being held at Nwoya central police station.
Recently an 8-month old baby identified as Trevor Lubangakene was found dead in Keyi ‘A’ sub ward, Bar- Dege Division in Gulu municipality. The corpse of the boy was found with missing body parts. His father, Michael Oyet, is on the run. Police is hunting for him as a key suspect in the murder.
Although the number of children murdered in rituals is unclear, child rights campaigners say hundreds of children are sacrificed each year in Uganda.
