The high court in Gulu will begin hearing the election petition case between NRM’s Nabinson James Kidega and newly-elected Aruu North Member of Parliament Lucy Achiro next week.

Justice David Matovu the resident judge of Mbarara who has been sent to hear election petitions in Gulu High Court agreed with both parties in a session in on Thursday that the case will kick off on Tuesday May 24, 2016.

NRM’s Nabinson Kidega, the Aruu North County MP looser dragged to court Lucy Achiro and the Electoral Commission for alleged noncompliance with the electoral laws.

Achiro garnered 8,599 votes while Nabinson James Kidega got 8,597 in the February 18, 2016 elections. The difference between the two was only two votes.

Kidega argues that the February 18 elections were not free and fair and that it was not conducted according to the electoral laws.
