Police  in Gulu on Wednesday morning recorded a statement from three people on the  reported abduction of former Omoro parliamentary candidate, Simon Toolit Akecha,  the Aswa region police spokesman, Jimmy Patrick Okema has told Acholi  Times.

Toolit is alleged to have been abducted by  armed unknown people at around 3 am  on Wednesday morning from his home in  Pece Divsion in Gulu municipality.

At the time of the alleged abduction, he was in his house with a son identified as  Steven Odong who had traveled in from Kampala.

A source  from Toolit’s party, the Forum for Democratic Change(FDC) told Acholi Times that  his[Toolit’s] family members live in Kampala. He usually lives alone at his Gulu home which also has rental apartments.

Police spokesman Jimmy Patrick Okema said a case of Toolit’s abduction was reported at Gulu Central Police between ”4am -6am” by his brother, Simon Odongkara.

Okema revealed that police has taken statements from Toolit’s son Steven Odong, his brother Simon Odonkara and a tenant at his home, Florence Atim.

At the time of filing of this report, the Aswa region police commander, Wilson Kwanya was at  Mr Toolit’s home. Police says it has started investigations on what could have happened to the Omoro parliamentary contestant.

Toolit, challenging the election of  deputy speaker of parliament Jacob Oulanyah. The case is before Justice David Matovu who is listening to election petition cases at Gulu high court. He should have appeared in court today where the Election Comision Returning Officer for Gulu, Benson Obete  was expected to be cross- examined by his[Toolit’s] lawyers.
