Rwot David Onen Acana II, the Acholi Paramount Chief has distanced himself from the graft and mismanagement of funds that were advanced to Ker Kwaro Acholi, the Acholi cultural institution by donors.

In 2013, Ker Kwaro Acholi found itself in a spot of bother after the Netherlands Kingdom asked the cultural leaders to refund 230 million shillings donated to the institution to help end conflicts in the sub region or face legal action.

The money was part of the Shs1.3 billion earmarked by the Democratic Governance Facility (DGF) for empowering the Acholi Cultural Institution in conflict resolution and peace building.

The Netherlands Kingdom DGF had signed a partnership with Acholi Cultural institution in November 2012, to foster reconciliation through peace meetings and negotiations.

The alleged mismanagement of funds amounting to over 200 million shillings from DGF forced the then Prime Minister of the cultural institution Kenneth Oketa to resign.

Addressing leaders from the Acholi sub region during a closure of a two day meeting at St Monica Tailoring School in Gulu town on Friday last week, Rwot Acana said he was not culpable for the mismanagement of the donor money.

Acana said the mismanagement of the funds was a deliberate move by some of the staff employed by the institution. Without mention names, he explained some of those who were involved in managing the money wanted to soil the name of Ker Kwaro Acholi in a bid to fulfil their personal desire.
