Gulu woman MP Aol Betty Ochan said all the aspirants who has expressed interest in the Omoro woman parliamentary seat are competent

At least four women have expressed interest to run on Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party ticket for the new Omoro District Woman Member of Parliament (MP) seat.

According to FDC party officials in Gulu, the four are; Prossy Alanyo Owiny, a clinical officer working with Lalogi Health Centre IV in Lalogi Sub County also in Omoro district, Teddy Amito, a social Worker with the NGO, Meeting Point International based in Kampala, Sophie Jovana Akera who works for the NGO Adunia Foundation and Alice Akello Latigo, a practicing advocate in Gulu.

Patrick Lumumba, acting District FDC party Chairperson for Gulu told the reporters on Thursday that the party has already received details of the individuals who want to represent Omoro in the 10th parliament.

Lumumba told journalists that his office has so far tasked four who have shown interest and asked them to verify their academic documents with the mandated bodies like Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).

Lumumba further said that the FDC might not hold primaries for Omoro but will instead agree on a single candidate through negotiations. He did not elaborate on how this would work out. But FDC officials said the process of selecting the candidates for the various elective positions in Omoro will be free and fair to all.

In November last year, Reagan Okumu, the Aswa County legislator was dragged to court by the former Gulu Municipality MP, Christopher Acire for failure by the FDC party to organize a primary.

Despite court ruling in favour of Acire, both Okumu and Acire run on an independent ticket.

Meanwhile, Betty Aol Ocan, the Gulu Woman Member of Parliament who is also a senior member of the party said all the four individuals are competent and capable persons who can represent the people of Omoro.

In July last year, parliament approved the creation of Omoro district which was originally part of Gulu district.
