Kitgum Resident District Commissioner, William Komakech, confirmed the Tuesday night murder in Kitgum

A woman was last night shot dead at her home in Cam-cam village, Pandwong Division, Kitgum Municipality.  The attack left her husband with serious injuries.

She has been identified as Christine Omoya. She was reportedly cut with a panga before being shot by the unknown attacker(s). She died shortly after arrival at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

The late deceased’s husband, Lamton Omoya, is admitted at St Joseph’s Hospital in Kitgum with deep cuts from the panga attack and bullet wounds.

Omoya is said to be the former District Forest Officer in Gulu and Kitgum district.

Omoya and his wife, sources told Acholi Times had just returned that very evening (Tuesday) from the burial of a relative in Gulu.

Kitgum resident district commissioner (RDC) Komakech William and other security officials confirmed the incident describing it as a ‘‘planned attack’’ possibly by people known to or connected to the family of Omoya.

“The motive was not robbery. May be the family has some problems with some people or there are some wrangles. Not even a needle was picked by the assailants,” Komakech told Acholi Times.

Acholi Times understands the incident occurred between 8:30p.m and 9p.m, when the family had just finished supper and evening prayers.

Sources said that as the family were preparing to depart to their bedrooms when the two assailants, armed with a gun and a panga struck.

“When a sister (to Omoya) who had rushed back to try and rescue the situation saw this, she decided to jump on the gunman and tried to wrestle the gun but she was overpowered. The gunman then shot the wife,” RDC Komakech narrated to Acholi Times.

The RDC said that two days before the attack, two family dogs from the Omoya household  had also dissapeared.

Christine Omoya was reportedly shot in the neck while her husband was shot in the chest.

The District Police Commander, Jackson Bariyampika, echoed RDC’s sentiment calling the attack “an internal matter”. He said the police had launched an investigations to find out the motive of the killing and attack as well as the suspect(s) who disappeared into the darkness after the gruesome incident.

Kitgum is becoming lawless for quite some times. Frequent arm robbery, shooting for the past three months but no single arrest by the security operatives.
