Aswa region police spokesman Jimmy Patrick Okema said a watchman  who was at the time guarding  the offices of ZOA, an internationala NGO, has been arrested by police in Nwoya

Police in Nwoya district is hunting for suspected burglars who broke into the offices of ZOA, an International nongovernmental organization over the weekend and stole 17 laptop computers, 5 satellite phones, 1.5 million shilling in cash, 4 power banks and two motorbikes.

Police say the incident occurred on Saturday at the ZOA’s offices in Anaka Town Council, in Nwoya district.

A case of theft has been registered under CRB 543/2016 at the Nwoya Central Police Station.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa Region Police Spokesperson told the journalists in Gulu that a night watchman who was the only one duty on that fateful night has already been arrested and is being held at Nwoya Central Police Station.

Okema said police suspects that the watchman, Christopher Agola, was served by the thugs with a bottle of beer laced with Chlorofoam, a sleeping inducing drugs used in surgical theatre to sedate a patient.

According Okema, prior to the breaking into the office, a lady who is suspected to be among the burglars served Agola with a bottle of beer. The police spokesman noted that after taking the beer, Agola could not remember what happened later.

The Aswa Police publicist says they later recovered tools that they suspects that the unknown thugs used to break into the office of ZOA.

None of the stolen items have been recovered so far, according to the police, neither has the police arrested any suspects.

ZOA is an international relief and recovery organization supporting vulnerable people affected by violent conflicts and natural disasters in fragile states, by helping them to realize dignified and resilient lives.
