Intern Doctors from Gulu University yesterday demonstrated over government’s failure to pay them allowances for the last three months.
The intern doctors began their peaceful demonstrations from Gulu University and marched to the office of the resident district commissioner.
The Interns said they work for more than 10 hours a day and get little pay.
“The little Shs 600,000 is not always being paid on time. They take many months before being paid. As we talk now we have so far taken 3 months without getting our pay”, one interns said.
“We know the government wants to stop paying our allowances. But we should be considered because we work more than the doctors in most hospitals,” said another Intern.
The students marched as they sung that they are not slaves or donkeys as they tool their petition to the office of the Gulu Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Capt Okot Santos Lapolo. But on reaching the RDC’s office, the Interns were informed that the RDC was not in office.
