Traders in Pece Division on Monday counted loses after authorities in the area demolished illegal structures in the division.

The division authorities led by Chairman Kelly Komakech stormed Cuk Pa Obec along ring road in Tegwana parish and destroyed five business premises and a market.

The affected business included a market and a bar renowned for selling local gin, illegal and a haven for illicit sex and crime.

Mr. Komakech said the market was operating illegally outside the gazzeted area.

‘’The immoral activities which happens here… people sleep here…people have sex here during the day, young people are getting spoilt here, first of all there is no sanitation after drinking they come and urinate in public,’’  Komakech said.

Mrs. Rose Alunyu the area local chairperson also said the ungazzeted market had become a security threat to the Pece area.

The Aswa region police spokesperson, Patrick Jimmy Okema said there had been a rise in crime due to the illegal market.

Jane Ocaya, the land owner on whose land the illegal structures were constructed blamed Pece Division for not informing her and her clients about the demolitions. She threatened to seek legal redress.

Ten people were arrested by police during the day of the demolition for suspected involvement in the marijuana trade.
