Ms Acayo Alexis Owiya, a 63 year old woman from Awach Sub County in Gulu district has demanded that a DNA test be carried out to find out the rightful family of Dominic Ongwen, a commander in the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) who is now being tried at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Ms Acayo wants government to help and fund the procedure.

Ms Acayo appeared at our office in Gulu after hearing a report that Mr Gilbert Olanya, the kilak county Member of Parliament was planning to travel together with the commander’s family members to visit him at The Hague based court between late June or early July this year.

Ms Acayo says the legislator is dealing with the wrong family.

“I do not want to talk much but all I demand is that government should come out and we have the DNA test so that this is resolved amicably,” Ms Acayo said.

Ms Acayo revealed that the elder brother of Ms Ogwen identified as Mr Owiya Simon was in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) before he died and had been advocating that his brother returns home.

This is the birth line of my children respectively “late Owiya Simon, late Auma grace, Kilama Robert who is still alive, Mr Okumu Dominic alive aka Ogwen, Akello Lucy Agnes, Adong Susan, Rubangakene Charles and Wokorach David “

Ms Acayo added that the Father of Mr Ogwen worked as a head teacher in Gulu district before he died when serving at Alero Primary School around 2002.

Ms Acayo said Ogwen was born on the 28th June 1980 and was baptized on the 15th August 1980 at Awach mission by late Father Raphael and she knew her son as Okumu Dominic who is the 4th of her 8 children.

She said Mr Ogwen was abducted in Koro Abili on his way to school around 1990 y.

A former LRA captive who preferred not to be named said that Dominic Ogwen might have not revealed his true family identity in Awach in Gulu district for fear that his family might be persecuted.

It was common for the rebels to attack and kill families of their captives who escaped forcing many to lie about their identity in order to keep their families safe.

What is all this fight all about? Can the whole mother shouldn’t be listen? Or what if the court happen to prove Ongwen guilty, and ask to pay for what he did, will you people fight to pay money? SECONDLY! When he was still saving in the bush, where was he sending the robbing money he was robbing? Find it out, then that is where he belong. Period!
