Gulu resident High Court judge, Justice Vincent Okwanga on Wednesday convicted a 35-year-old woman for sexually assaulting a minor and a mentally challenged boy.
Anna Akullu, a resident of Te-Ogelo village, Lii Sub County in Nwoya district charged with aggravated defilement under section 129 (3) and (4) (d)of the penal code act.
She was convicted on her own plea.
Prosecution led by Patrick Omia, told court that on July 14, 2014, at Te- Ogelo village in Nwoya district with knowledge that the boy is not mentally sound, Akullu went ahead to have sex with him.
Omia told court Akullu met the boy while she was on her way from a nearby well to fetch water at around 8pm before engaging into sexual intercourse with the minor.
Omia asked court to hand Akullu not less than 10 year for sexually exploiting a child instead of protecting her.
After the incident, a ritual cleansing was performed in order to cleanse them (Akullu and her victim).
Akullu, a mother of six who had earlier on denied the charges belatedly owned up to the crime and asked for forgiveness.
She asked court for leniency and said she would become an advocate for children rights so that they are not sexually exploited.
Her lawyer, Henry Komakech Kilama, asked court to treat Akullu a first offender who is ready to reform.
Akullu lured her victim, now 17-years into sex after the boy helped her with a flashlight.
In his ruling, Justice Okwanga handed the convict a 6-year- jail term saying it will act as a deterrent to would be offender.
