The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Office in Gulu has been rocked by sex scandals.
Recently, The NRM chairman for Pece division in Gulu municipality, Mr Opiyo Colbert was detained over allegations of extorting about Shs2 million and also forging NRM Identity cards.
He was also accused of luring ladies into sex in exchange for jobs as party mobilisers.
Mr Opiyo has however come out to say he was following the command of his boss, Mr Komakech Simon, the Gulu NRM Administrative Secretary.
Mr Opiyo told a meeting of Gulu district NRM executive members that it was Mr Komakech who directed him to recruit young girls who he (Mr Komakech) would have sex with in his car and lodges while he (Mr Opiyo) would also have sex with others.
The meeting that was chaired by Mr Martin Kizza Aboga, the Gulu district NRM chairperson at Taks Centres on Monday was attended by many NRM members.
Mr Opiyo told Acholi times that, “Mr Komakech is the one who has the stamp and the headed paper used to forge the identity cards. We would give to the ladies assuring them of the job opportunities with the NRM as village mobilisers.”
Mr Opiyo arrest was aided by Mr Komakech the administrative secretary on the 18th of May 2015 and charged for obtaining money with false pretence at Gulu central police station under CRB 1216/2015.
During the meeting, the NRM party members petitioned the District Executive Committee to remove Mr Komakech from the NRM office and that the case of Mr Opiyo Colbert be handled out of police since Mr Komakech alerted police so that he appears innocent yet he is the one mismanaging the office.
Mr Komakech when contacted by Acholi times denied all the allegations saying, those who want him out are former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi’s loyalists who want to disrupt the party organization in Gulu.
“This Amama group are still in Gulu and we shall expose them. They have never been happy with me being in the office,” Mr Komakech told this reporter.
Mr Aboga, the Gulu district NRM chairperson said they welcome the petition to remove Mr Komakech from office but that the youth accusing him should not try closing the NRM office because they will face arrest.
Mr Aboga also told this reporter that he is not backing Mr Komakech as other members are alleging but that they will hear the petition on Thursday and if found genuine, forward it to the NRM secretariat in Kampala since Mr Komakech has an agreement with the Kampala office and cannot just be kicked out locally.
“Those who want to close the office by force are Amama’s people and if they try to exert force we shall arrest and name them,” Mr Aboga said.
