Five suspects including a Gulu prominent businessman, David Livingstone Lakony who have been charged in connection with the gruesome murder of five people, all members of the same family have been further remanded after the prosecution told court that investigation is still incomplete.
The five are charged in connection with the death of; John Kennedy Oketta, 45, his wife, Agnes Apiyo, 32, and three of his biological children.
The suspects appeared before Joseph Angole, the Amuru Grade One Magistrate’s court on Wednesday each charged with five counts of murder by arson contrary to section 188 and 189 of the penal code act in a parked courtroom.
Prosecution led by Patrick Adoko informed court that investigation on the case was still incomplete.
In its charge sheet, Prosecution contends that on January 7, 2017 at Kal ‘A’ village, Koch Goma Sub County in Nwoya on Saturday morning at around 2AM, the suspects set a house on fire leading to the death of five people.
The suspects are; Patrick Okot Ayweri, the man who was arrested immediately after the gruesome act and David Livingstone Lakony, 64, a Gulu businessman.
Others are; Santo Oryem alias Kavio, 47, Olanya Charles, 46, and Morris Opiyo Lalam, alias Agatta, aged 22, all are local farmers.
The Grade One Magistrate’s Court did not allow them to enter any plea and further remanded the suspects until February 10.
Police say the suspects were picked after preliminary investigation suspect that they could have had a hand in the death of the five people.
John Bosco Okullu, the area LC III Koch Goma Sub County warned against revenge attacks saying it will jeopardize the work of police in its attempt to bring the culprit to book.
