    ICC President To Visit Northern Uganda

    ICC Judge Silvia Fernandez de Gurmendi (ICC photo)

    The president of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Judge Silvia Fernandez de Gurmendi is expected to visit northern Uganda this month, the ICC has in statement to journalists.

    Judge Silvia Fernandez de Gurmendi will visit Lukodi in Gulu district where he will meet war victims.

    Lukodi is one of the areas where former Lords Resistance Army (LRA) rebel Dominic Ongwen is suspected to have committed heinous crimes.

    Ongwen is currently on trial at the ICC in The Hague facing 70 charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

    Judge Gurmendi is expected to arrive in Uganda on Feb 23, according to a statement the ICC statement.

    The court`s president will be accompanied by several high profile officials from the  court.

    The ICC President and the trust fund officials will address a press conference in Gulu on Tuesday February 28.
