There was drama in Gulu High Court on Thursday morning after a suspect battling an aggravated defilement charge collapsed in court while defending himself.
Ambrose Olung, aged 27, a resident of Lulyango village, Alero Sub County in Nwoya district was appearing before Justice Vincent Okwanga, the Gulu resident High Court judge.
When Oling was invited to testify in his defence, he blacked out.
Olung who is HIV positive, according to court records, it appears found it hard to answer several questions fired at him by the presiding judge, unable to take it all: he collapsed in court and court went quiet until Stephen Ocan, the Court Clerk prisons officers who were in the court to help Olung.
Two warders rushed to dock and helped Olung sit on a bench inside court. On being put on the bench, the suspect slammed himself on floor. He was shortly after led out of court.
Patrick Adoko, the State Prosecutor in the case asked the judge to adjourn hearing of the case for 30 minutes so as to allow the suspect regain his senses.
But instead the judge adjourned the matter to Wednesday July 13, 2017, explaining that it will give time for a medical assessment on the condition of the suspect.
Olung was subsequently remanded to Gulu Central Government Prions until next week.
The suspect is accused of defiling a 15-year-old girl contrary to section 129 (3) and 4 (a) of the penal code act.
Prosecution alleges in the month of December 2013, in Lulyango village, Alero Sub County in Nwoya district being a person infected with HIV/Aids, Olung had a sexual intercourse with the minor.
However he denies the charge.
Defilement is a capital offence and it attracts a death penalty as maximum sentence on conviction.
