Police in Atiak Sub County in Amuru district are stuck with nine emaciated children after their suspected mother abandoned them at the police post.
Aswa region police spokesman Jimmy Patrick Okema said on Monday that a woman named Grace Akwero, 35, had visited Atiak Police Post to report a case of neglect against her husband, one Santo Acaye.
She, however, escaped leaving her nine children at Atiak Police Post before a statement could be taken from her. The oldest of them is just 9 years, according to police. It is not yet known whether all the children belong to her. Attempts by police to track her and her reported husband have been unsuccessful.
Stuck with the children and unable to feed them, the police with support from local leaders is trying to convince a local NGO, Chewing Village Orphanage Home to take care up the nine children.
