Mr Deogratious Ssejemba, the Gulu Chief Magistrate has tasked Twontoo Oba of Twontoo Oba & Co. Advocates, a law firm based in Lira town to serve court with his practicing certificates.

This follows a request made by Mr William Bayo, the State Prosecutor who informed the Chief Magistrate’s Court that Twontoo Oba & Co. Advocates are among the law firms whose practicing licenses have not been renewed.

Bayo said, “It thus makes it illegal for Twontoo Oba to represent a client before any court of law.”

He accordingly asked court to order Twontoo Oba to produce his license.

However, Mr Oba said though his firm’s license has not been renewed, his practicing license is still valid.

Oba says he practiced law for the last two decades and asked court to allow him to represent his client

Twontoo Oba is the lead counsel for Mr Patrick Oola Lumumba, the former Deputy Speaker Gulu, who is battling a Conspiracy to Murder case in court.

Chief Magistrate Ssejemba, said he will give the firm benefit of doubt and proceed with the case in which Lumumba is accused of planning to kill Mr Lovis Odokonyero, the Director Bright Valley Nursery & Primary School.

The Magistrate later demanded that Counsel Oba produce his certificate in the next court session when the case will come up for further hearing.

The case was adjourned to September 7th, 2015 when prosecution is expected to produce its witnesses.

Lumumba was dragged to court with Mr Geoffrey Kabi on allegation that they wanted to murder Odokonyero using a gun that they planned to procure from South Sudan.

In a two minute voice recording played in court last week as part of incriminating evidence against the duo, Kabir is purported to have said he will go to South Sudan and buy a pistol if Lumumba agreed to give him Shs10 Million so that he can finish Odokonyero off.

According to the recording, Kabir was aggrieved after Odokonyero allegedly forced his wife identified only as Lagum to abort after the two become bird lovers.

Kabir also accused Odokonyero of infecting his wife with HIV/Aids.

The case was earlier dismissed against the duo but Odokonyero ran back to court saying he is not satisfied with the ruling leading to the case being reinstated.

Two years ago, Lumumba accused Odokonyero of defiling his underage daughter, a Primary six pupil in Bright Valley Nursery & Primary School, a private school where the accused is the proprietor.
