Ms Maria Matembe, Former Ethics and Integrity minister has said that the president of Uganda Yoweri Museveni hates the women because he has not put an executive pressure to see that the marriage and divorce bill which gives fair opportunity to women goes through the floor of parliament.
Matembe said that women also have the right to own property including land and that the constitution should support them but the marriage and divorce bill is not being passed.
Matembe was on Wednesday addressing women at Churchill courts Hotel in Gulu during the Northern Uganda women Land governance conference organized by GWED-G and UN Women.
She said that president Yoweri Museveni is against women having co-ownership of their husbands property and it disturbs her when she hears women singing that the president loves them.
“If he loves you the women of Uganda then he should have supported the issue of co- ownership by women but you women praise him for no good reason. Get it from me, the president hates you,”Matembe said.
Meanwhile, Lady Justice Elisabeth Nahamye of the high court of Uganda who was the chief guest at the function advised women to take charge of leadership of the country even in politics and start at the grassroots level of LC1s up to limit so that they can influence decisions on issues that directly affect the women.
