Police in Gulu district on Sunday night apprehended eight suspects within Municipality believed to have had a hand in the murder of Mr Rafael Obura, a son to the Prison Commissioner in charge of custodial services, Mr Agustin Obura.
Obura, 25 was found dead on Wednesday last week near the Muslim community cemetery in Nakasero parish, in Pece division in what is suspected to be a murder allegedly committed by iron bar hit men.
The deceased was reportedly on his way back home by around 2:00am, in the company of his unidentified girlfriend when the heinous incident happened.
According to the Police, the Thugs made off with unspecified amount of money in the deceased’s wallet and his digital camera.
Post-mortem tests revealed the deceased was hit using a blunt object that caused his death.
O.C CIID, Gulu Central Police Station Mr James Asubu, in an interview on Tuesday with Acholi Times confirmed the arrests, adding that already two of the suspects have been identified as having participated in murdering the deceased on the fateful night.
“The deceased’s girl friend who was not harmed on the fateful night managed to identify two of the eight suspects as those she saw on the night when they were beating Obura, we are however still treating them as suspects as investigations are ongoing,” says Mr Asubu.
He added that they are preparing the two suspects files to be forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for sanctioning and later on they will be arraigned before court to answer charges of murder arguing criminals must be brought to book.
Police reports indicate that 10 people have been so far killed within Gulu district since the beginning of the year.
