Police has called off the search for a Dutch national who went missing last month at Murchison Falls national park, Acholi Times has learnt.
Sophie Isabela Federica, a medical student from the Netherlands, went missing from Murchison Falls National Game Park in Nwoya district late last month.
The search has been called off as hope of finding her a life or even her remains fades.
Fredrica disappeared from a students’ center set up by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). At the time of her disappearance she was at the centre with two other colleagues, also Dutch nationals.
Less than two weeks ago, Police experts from the Netherlands joined a team from the Uganda police and rangers from Uganda Wildlife Authority to help in the search of the missing woman.
But the latest report from Paraa indicates that late last week, the search team abandoned the site where Federica went missing despite deploying drones and sniffer dogs to aid the search.
A member of the police search team who declined to be named said the search has been call off due to fatigue.
However Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa Region Police Spokesperson declined to comment on whether police are still continuing with the search or not.
Okema said police is still investigating the disappearance of the Dutch national.
A case of disappearance was been registered under file SD/16/29/10/2015 with police in Nwoya district.
It is unclear as to what could have happened to the Dutch national. But the river Nile on whose bank a water and a piece of cloth suspected to have belonged to the Dutch national were found, is infested with hippos and crocodiles.
