Gulu Forum for Democratic (FDC) Gulu Chairman, Toolit Simon Akecha has said he will support Democratic Party president Norbert Mao for the Gulu Municipality seat and not his party candidate Hiram Ochola.

Last month Akecha said FDC had no candidate for the Gulu municipality seat and that his party would support Mao.

But on Tuesday the FDC Gulu Publicity Secretary Kelly Komakech who is also contesting for the Pece Division LC3 Chair said Akecha’s statement did not represent the party position.

Indeed on Thursday, Akecha made a u-turn and said Hiram Ochola was the FDC candidate for Gulu municipality, bu,t  quickly added that he will support Mao.

“I am not going to support him (Hiram Ochola) because we are looking at leadership in Acholi sub region “Akecha told Acholi Times.

Ochola, an new comer in Gulu municipality is unknown among many voters.  While he is the official FDC candidate, he is unlikely to get the backing of senior FDC party officials in Gulu and the region.

Kelly Komakech the FDC Gulu publicity says that Toolit Akecha is looking for a favour from Mao who remains popular. Akecha, a former MP for Omoro is contesting against Deputy Speaker Jacob Olanya. Komakech says Toolit wants Mao to campaign for him.

On his part Hiram Ochola says the decision of his party Chairman not to support him will not scare him.
