Uganda People’s Defense Forces combat engineering team on Thursday removed an anti-tank bomb found in the middle of the road at Pakalila-Pajulu located along the Patiko- Palaro road in Gulu district.
Gulu Resident District Commissioner (RDC) said on Friday that the anti-tank bomb was planted by the LRA rebels during the peak time of the insurgency in northern Uganda, with the aim targeting government tanks.
It is unclear how the bomb remained undetected on the road for all this long.
Lapolo urged people to be vigilant and report any citing of unexploded ordinances in their communities. Lapolo said such ordinances are still scattered in many parts of northern Uganda.
“I am calling upon the people of northern Uganda to be extremely keen on this unexploded ordinance which are sometimes difficult to detect,’’ Lapolo said.
‘‘Report to office of the RDC, your local leaders and know that sometimes they are even [unexploded ordinances] can be found in your gardens.’’
Captain Caesar Olweny, the 4th division public relation officer said that the army will always respond to any cases of military hardware found by the population in northern Uganda. Olweny said the UPDF combat engineering team is ready to handle such emergencies.
