Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa region police spokesperson said police has launched an investigation into the circumstances how Izama died and his body ended up in Nwoya district

Police in Nwoya district has found the decomposing body of an Arua resident man who had gone missing since the middle of last year.

The remains of Victor Izama, a resident of Funda village, Erikobo Sub County in Arua was discovered by police who were on patrol on Friday last week along Karuma- Pakwach Highway.

Police say Izama went missing from Arua under unclear circumstances in May last year.

The Aswa Region Police Spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed on Monday that police has come across the bones on the New Year, near River Ayago Bridge.

Ayago River flows through Koch Goma Sub County in Nwoya and empties its water into Karuma Falls in Murchison Falls National.

Okema says the badly decomposed body was found lying just 30 meters from the fast flowing Ayago River.

He explained that the body was discovered by a police patrol vehicle. A wallet with the deceased’s ID was found near the body.

One of the brothers of the deceased who was only identified as Kenneth confirmed that the remains were Izama’s.  Kenneth said Izama was a driver and went missing from Arua more than six month. The matter was reported to Arua Central Police.

The bones were transferred to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital awaiting transportation to his ancestral home for a decent burial.

Police have -opened an investigation on the mysterious death.

It is not clear if Izama was kidnapped and later killed by the assailant before his body was dumped near the river Ayago.
