The turn up for the Local Council lC5 Chairperson in Nwoya district was generally poor.  By 9:30 am, at Anaka, the district headquarters, only 74 out of 858 registered voters had cast their votes. In Anaka Central Primary school polling station only 152 of the 863 registered voters had cast their ballots. At Amar trading centre in Koch Goma out of the 279 registered voters only 65 had voted by 2:05pm.

Willy Ojok the polling assistant at Amar trading center A said he could see people drinking at nearby bars but none of the was turning up to vote.

“Many are frustrated and could be heard saying the result [of the presidential elections] was not the way they had expected it to turn out,’’ said Ojok.

Six candidates are in the race for the district chairperson while 35 for directly elected councilors five and 15 for the women councilor five.

Gulu and other districts in the Acholi sub region also registered a low voter turnout.  Voter turnout is also said to have been low nationally including in the capital Kampala.
