Lady Justice Margret Mutonyi, the Gulu resident High Court judge on Wednesday labeled a 22-year- old man who defiled a 12-year-old girl an ‘‘animal.’’
Bosco Ouma, a resident of Labwor- Omor village, Bobi Sub County in Gulu district was appearing before Lady Justice Mutonyi for sentencing after pleading guilty to the capital offence which can attract a death penalty as a maximum sentence.
Prosecution led by William Bayo told court that on January 10, 2014, at Labwor- Omor village, Ouma lured the victim who was harvesting groundnuts in the garden before defiling her in a nearby bush.
According to prosecution, Ouma had requested the girl to direct him to nearby homestead but ended up raping her.
While sentencing Ouma, Justice Mutonyi says considering the age of the victim, the convict should have offered protection instead of defiling her.
Justice Mutonyi says by sexually abusing the teenager, Ouma behaved like an animal.
The judge also described Ouma act as immoral saying by asking the girl to show him the way to a nearby home but later chose to defile her shows the evil nature of his mind.
However she said by pleading guilty to Ouma did not waste court’s time. Lady Justice Mutonyi thereafter handed him an 8-year-jail term.
In another defilement case before the same court, Geoffrey Opiyo alias Malaika, a resident of Ocaga village, Bobi Sub County in Gulu district was sentenced to 15-years in prison for defiling a 9-year old girl.
