The high court in Gulu has sentenced a man to 15 years for defiling his niece.

Joel Ogen- Rwot, 29, a farmer and a father of two had been charged with aggravated defilement contrary to section 129 (3) and 4 (a) of the penal code act.

Lady Justice Margret Mutonyi, the Gulu resident High Court judge sentenced Joel Ogen-Rwot a resident of resident of Coo-Pe Trading Centre in Bungatira Sub County, Gulu district to a15-year-jail for the offence.

Prosecution led by Patrick Omia told court that Ogen-Rwot defiled his 10-year-old niece on October 4, 2013. Prosecution said it was the second time that Ogen-Rwot was sexually abusing the minor.

Ogen-Rwot, a polygamous man with two wives had earlier pleaded not guilty to the offence.

However he changed his plea and admitted after the defilement victim appeared in court to testify against him.

In her ruling, Justice Mutonyi said the long sentence will enable young girl to grow in an environment free from an abuser like Ogen- Rwot.

In the same court, Lady Justice Mutonyi also ordered a 23-year-old man to serve a 15-year-jail term after finding him guilty of aggravated defilement.

Michael Ojok, a resident of Opwoyo- Mal village, Unyama Sub County in Gulu district admitted to have defiled a 7-year-old girl.

Court heard that on July 28, 2012, Ojok met the victim while she was from the well.

Prosecution told court that Ojok lured the victim to a nearby bush before defiling her.

Ojok begged for leniency before he was sentenced but the judge did not listen to his plea.
