Nwoya Resident District Commissioner, Beatrice Akello Akori has asked
the public to disregard rumors doing the rounds in the district and beyond that the ruling  NRM party  borrowed money from SACCOs to fund its recent campaigns.

Akori who was speaking during the International Women’s Day celebrations at
Alero Sub County said such rumors are being spread by loan defaulters adding that it is leading to the collapse of some SACCOs in the district.
“The ones who have borrowed money from the SACCO are using this propaganda to poison the minds of the people because they have defaulted on their loans,’’ she said.

Akori explained that that SACCOs are government initiatives to from where those who can’t meet conditions set by banks to borrow from.

The RDC asked the public to report to the authorities those spreading rumours that government had borrowed money from their SACCO’s to fund the NRM campaigns in the recent elections.

There are reports that over 200 million shillings was withdrawn by members of Koch Goma SACCOs between December 2015 to February 2016.

Rumours doing the rounds in many SACCOs in the Acholi sub region is that the NRM borrowed money for campaigns from them. These is mostly among SACCOs that have failed to pay their members on time or to account for members’ money.
