Police in Gulu last night arrested two men in Lacor trading centre, about 6 kms from Gulu town in connection with the surge in robberies and night attacks  in Gulu municpality.

Aswa police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema told the press today afternoon at the Northern Uganda Media Club in Gulu that the suspects were found with two pangas, two knives, a toy gun and an old police uniform.

Okema identified them as Isaac Odong and Richard Komakech, all residents of Lacor trading centre.

‘‘We have intensified our operation to combat crime and protect people,’’ said Okema.

In a related development, six suspected iron bar hitmen were on Saturday arrested along Ring Road in Gulu town for after they allegedly tried to cut off the head of one Michael Asio, a resident of  Te-Gwana in Pece division, Gulu municipality.

The four suspected hitmen have been identified as Geoffrey Ojok, Morris Okello, Sammy Opiyo, Emmanuel Akena, Moses Ali and Emmanuel Odoch.

“The four were arrested with a panga which they tried to use for cutting Asio’s head and it also had some blood stains,” said the police the police spokesman.

Martin Okoyo, the Gulu District police commander said police operations will be extended to lodges and hotels because the criminals sleep in the lodges during the day and terrorise people on the night.

On Saturday, a mobile money operator, Louis Komagum was shot dead by unknown armed men in  Layibi central,  an outskirt of Gulu town.

Louis Komagum, 19, was counting proceeds of the day at around 8 pm in his employers’ mobile money shop when two men disguised as customers entered, demanded for money  which  the deceased is said to have resisted,  resulting into the gunmen shooting him six times at close range before  they fled with an unspecified amount of money.

This something horrible for the Acholi people. You know Acholi has been in problem for over 30 years now since Museveni came to power in 1986. Acholi’s problems are connected to neglect by Uganda Government, the government totally ignored the people from the North since from the beginning. 34% of the population in the North are poor and people are struggling with living. Livestock as the main economic source of income were destroyed by UPDF, Agriculture, and generies all are grounded down. where do you think people would go and get support? the solution robbery with violence.
