At least 30 huts were on Tuesday evening razed down in Okii village, Corom parish, Koch Goma Sub County in Nwoya district after a 23-year- old man died in the home of a local traditional herbalist.
Police say Denis Oringa, a resident of Oruka village, Purongo Sub County also in Nwoya district had reportedly sought treatment in the home of Betty Akech, 52, a renowned traditional healer in the area. Oringa, however, died at the home of the healer on Monday.
Aswa region police spokesman Jimmy Patrick Okema told Acholi Times on Thursday that Oringa had been complaining of sexually transmitted infection (STI) before seeking treatment at the home of Akech from where he died under unclear circumstance.
According to police, after the death of Oringa, his relatives walked from Purongo Sub County, about 20 miles to Koch Goma Sub County and torched 21 grass thatched huts after at the home of the traditional healer and again torched another 10 huts the next day.
The traditional healer, Betty Akech, has been arrested by police in Nwoya for questioning.
Police has condemned the act of arson and warned that it will arrest and prosecute those involved in the act.
In the last three months alone, this is the sixth revenge attacks experienced in Acholi sub region alone since the beginning of this year.
