Police in Nwoya is holding a man for allegedly hacking his 50- year old stepfather with an axe consequently leading to his death in Anaka hospital, where the deceased had been rushed for treatment.

The suspect, Walter Opiyo, a resident of Ywaya Parish in Anaka Sub County was today arrested by police in Nwoya in connection with the murder.

Christine Akumu, the councilor III Ywaya parish told Acholi Times that Opiyo had wanted to injure his own child but the child was hid by the mother, making Opiyo to turn his wrath on his step father.

Nwoya RDC Beatrice Akello Akori said five huts belonging to the family of Opiyo  were on Wednesday evening burnt in retaliation by relatives of the late Obol before police rushed to the scene to cool the situation.

“The family of the deceased should stop what they are doing; torching down huts– that is unlawful,’’ Akori told Acholi Times.

Nwoya DPC Dan Okello confirmed the report adding that suspect Opiyo has already been arrested and is being held in Nwoya Central Police Station.

Okello further said the police has since yesterday deployed at the scene of the crime to prevent any further destruction.

On 22nd of March this year, 30 huts were torched in a retaliatory attack in Koch Okii village,  Koch Goma sub county in Nwoya district after a man identified as Denis Oringa 23 died at his wife’s home. Relatives of the deceased suspected that he had been killed by position. They retaliated by burning huts at the home of the deceased’s wife.
