The family of a Dutch national who went missing in Murchison Falls National Game Park in Nwoya district more than six months ago has hired private investigators to find out what happened to her.

Sophia Isabela Federica, 21, a medical student from The Netherlands disappeared on October 28 last year, reportedly after she left colleagues and took a walk along the banks of the Nile.

Sophia, an intern at Rubaga Hospital in Kampala is said to have been a student of Amsterdam University and was with friends at the time of her disappearance.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa region police spokesman said on Monday that since Sunday a team of twelve investigators from the Netherlands have started investigations in attempt to find out what happened to her.

In April last year, Uganda Police and police detectives from The Netherlands called off the search after hope of ever finding her alive dwindled.

The Dutch police also deployed a drone armed with a sophisticated camera to aid the search but their efforts also hit a dead end.

Okema, the Aswa Region Police Spokesperson said the family of the Dutch national were dissatisfied with the outcome of the search by Ugandan rescues.

Okema said he was unaware whether the Dutch investigators had a time frame within which to complete their work.

The investigator are already camped at the scene where the young lady disappeared in Murchison Falls National Park.

A case of her disappearance was reported Nwoya police under SD/16/29/10/2015.
