Twelve sub counties in Gulu district have received another batch of 35,000 citrus seedlings through the Operation Wealth Creation Programme.
Operation Wealth Creation is being implemented by the army after an overhaul of the National Agricultural Advisory Services (Naads).
The citrus seedlings were supplied by Elosmos Agri Service Limited, company hired under the wealth creation project.
According to Major Benny Odong, the Operation Wealth Creation Coordinator for Omoro County, follow ups will be made through the local leaders in the areas where the seedlings were supplied to ensure that government resources are not wasted by the recipients of the seedlings.
Major Odong said of the 12 sub counties Gulu municipality received the fewest number of seedlings because of residents having smaller pieces of land. The other sub counties received 2,833 Citrus seedlings each. These included: Aswa, Omoro, Lakwana, Tochi, Awach, Paicho, Palaro, Bungatira, Unyama, Lalogi, Odek, Patiko, Koro, Bobi and Ongako.
Operation Wealth Creation aims at increasing household income.
Major Odong cautioned that while recipients of the seedlings are planting their crops given to them, those who won’t will be prosecuted for sabotaging the government programme.

This is good, but the best thing would be for the government to work harder and access international markets for trade in produce that are already being grown by every body: example, sim sim grown without fertilizer cost $34.00 per Kilogram; sorghum and millet cost $24.00 per kilogram; Okra/otigo four fingers cost $12.00; mangoes, one mango cost $3.00 etc. People could sell these produce at 1/4 price and all household income would increase within six months, without any problem. In fact every body would prosper and every body would be happy and willing to pay some tax to the government out of their profits.
