At least 10 new boreholes were commissioned in Nwoya district under the Peace Recovery and Development Plan 2(PRDP) in the financial year 2015/2016.

The boreholes were commissioned on Friday last week by the, Albert Oloya, the Nwoya district water officer.

The boreholes were drilled and constructed at a sum of 197 million shilling by Samadura Technologies limited.

Adong Martha, a resident of Kal A village, one of the places that got a new borehole said before the borehole, villagers shared a shallow well with animals, exposing them to water borne diseases like diarrhea.

At the commissioning, Albert Oloya, the Nwoya district water officer cautioned the community over the management of the boreholes.

“We shall be left with no option other than closing the boreholes points that the community are not giving proper attention to by fencing, contributing maintenance fee,’’ Oloya said.

Nwoya district access to safe water coverage is at 66% compared to 67 national coverage.
