    Amuru Man Kills Two In Dowry Row

    A 20-year-old man has attacked and killed two members of his own family in Amuru district after his family failed provide for money and goats he needed to marry his two wives.

    Simon Onekgiu, a resident of Apaa village, Acwere parish in Pabbo Sub County is alleged to have killed his 60-year-old, Madelena Atido and his brother’s wife, Grace Amono aged 20, on Sunday last week.

    Reports indicate that for long, Onekgiu was not happy with his mother accusing her for failure to help him pay dowry for his two wives.

    Andrew Akampurira, the Amuru OC CIID officer, confirmed the incident. Akumpurira explained that after Onekgiu’s two wives abandoned him, he (Onekgiu) got angry and hit his mother’s head and that of his brother’s wife with a club.

    Onekgiu had reportedly also locked his brother’s two children in the house was on the verge of setting the house ablaze before he was stopped.

    Police say Onekgiu was in in bad terms with his family.

    Onekgiu has been arrested and is being held at Amuru Central Police Station. Police has preferred murder charges against him.

    Police say they have received unconfirmed information that the suspect could suffered from seasonal mental illness adding that they will subject him to a mental health test to establish whether he is mentally sound.
