The Omoro district interim LC V chairperson race has heated up with three expressing interest in the job.
Omoro district becomes operational on 1st July 2016. The district headquarters will be located in Opit Trading Centre.
Candidates who have shown interest to become interim Chairman of the new district include Wadok Francisco Awori (Independent) who is the current LCV councilor for Koro sub county, Ojok Isaac Newton (NRM) who is the LCV councilor for Bob sub county and Okello Douglas peter Okao (NRM) who is the LCV councilor for Lalogi, current Gulu Vice district chairperson and former Gulu district local government speaker.
Ojok Isaac Newton, one of the NRM candidates in the race when asked why the party has two aspirants in the race said that the election for the district chair is at individual level and there is no need for any party primaries
Ovulu George, the Gulu district NRM registrar said the two candidates are free to express interest in the seat.
Of the 10 councilors expected to vote for the Interim Omoro district Chairperson, four are NRM, three FDC, one is DP and two are independents.
Otika Richard (FDC) LCV for Ongako Sub County said he will look for depth of knowledge in understanding the local government setting as a requirement for who he will elect Interim Chairman.
Pascal Nyerere (DP) LCV for Odek Sub County said his vote will not be based on party but for a unifying leader.
The Gulu district Electoral Commission registrar, Benson Obete said he could not confirm whether the election of the Interim Chair on 1st July 2016 when Omoro becomes operational.
Omoro district will be made up of Ongako, Odek, Lakwana, Bobi, Koro, Lalogi sub counties.
