The State Prosecutor in the treason case against Dan Oola Odiya, the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party Deputy National Secretary for Mobilization has said investigations in the case is complete.
Paul Wepondi told Gulu Grade Magistrate’s court presided over by Paul Owino on Tuesday morning that they are ready to commit the suspects to High Court on the next adjournment.
Oola Dan Odiya is jointly charged with Kenneth Otto and Ojok Oram with treason, concealment of information, two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
Wepondi told court that the State is in the process preparing committal documents for the trio who are facing capital offences.
Magistrate Owino adjourned the case to August 22, 2016 when Oola and two others will be committed to high court after they were further remanded.
Lloyd Ocorobiya of Ocorobiya & Co. Advocates, the lawyer who represented the suspects did not raise any objection to request made by the State Attorney.
Oola and his co-accused had appeared Tuesday, August 9, 2016 before Owino for the mention of the charges brought against him amid tight security.
Their charges relate to an attack in May this year on an army installation in Opit in Lakwana Sub county, Gulu district which left two people dead including an army officer.
On several occasions, Olara Otunnu, the outgone UPC President demanded that trial for his party leader should be expeditious.
Olara Otunnu says the constitution is clear and it requires that trial should be done in a systematical and expeditiously manner.
