Gulu University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney Australia, in a move aimed at improving science courses at the Gulu district- based university.
The partnership will also see the two Universities collaborate in student and staff exchanges, research, partnership and curricular development.
The MoU was signed in a meeting held at Bomah Hotel in Gulu town last weekend. It was witnessed by a delegation from the Ministry of Education and Sports, Gulu district leaders, Gulu University and staff from the Australian university.
Prof Ian Jacobs, the UNSW president and Vice Chancellor told Acholi Times in an interview that they chose Gulu University in Africa because of the university’s positive contribution in post conflict northern Uganda.
“For the period of 14 years since Gulu University was established, it has been able change many lives. As UNSW, we want to contribute to a noble course of helping to keep the transformation cycle going on through partnership that will look at wide arrays of courses.”
Prof Jacobs said the partnership will focus on three key areas; engineering, public health and peace building.
The Australian Prof also said that the partnership will not only benefit Gulu University but will also help in transforming Gulu municipality into a leading city.
Gulu University Vice Chancellor, Prof Jack Nyeko Pen-Mogi lauded the Australian university for the partnership.
The Minister for Higher Education, Mr John Chrysostom Muyingo in his statement read by the Commissioner for Higher Education Mr Robert Odok Oceng, lauded the partnership between the two universities.

good job Prof. As for land for Gulu University I stongly suggest you look at Keyo Primary School area. This is the oldest school in Acholi District and would befitting to host the University. Gulu town / city is crowded, think outside the box.
